Non-EU nationals

SHORT-TERM VISA

  • For a stay up to 90 days.
  • Issued for tourism, family or friends visits, invitation, sport, cultural events, etc. 
  • Application is submitted at the Czech embassy or consulate in your country of residence.

PERMANENT RESIDENCY

  • Valid for an unlimited duration (biometric card valid for 10 years).
  • Can be obtained after 5 years of continuous residence. Children of foreigners with permanent residence are exempt from the 5-year requirement.
  • Application is usually submitted in the Czech Republic. 

LONG-TERM VISA

  • For a stay more than 90 days, up to 1 year. 
  • Issued for purposes such as study, family reunification, business, seasonal work, etc.
  • Application is submitted at the Czech embassy or consulate in your country of residence.

BABY BORN IN CZECHIA

  • Necessary to submit the application within 60 days of birth, even if it's incomplete!
  • Baby is entitled to the same residence permit as their parent.
  • Application is submitted in the Czech Republic. 

LONG-TERM RESIDENCE PERMIT

  • For a stay longer than one year. 
  • Granted for purposes as family reunification, study, seeking employment or starting a business, investment, etc.
  • Application is submitted based on your place of residence – either in the Czech Republic or at the Czech embassy or consulate in your country of residence.

EU nationals and their family members

REGISTRATION CERTIFICATE

  • Only for EU nationals (not family members).
  • It's not mandatory to process it.
  • Used for vehicle purchase, later for applcation for permanent residence, etc.
  • Application can be submitter personally, send by post or via databox.

BABY BORN IN CZECHIA

  • EU national - Registration certificate is optional. For permanent residency I recommend to submit the application within 60 days of birth due to insurance.
  • EU national's family member - necessary to submit the application within 60 days of birth due to insurance. Temporary or termanent residency according to the parent's residency.
  • Application is submitted in the Czech Republic. 

TEMPORARY RESIDENCE PERMIT

  • For EU national's family members.
  • Biometric card valid for 3 or 5 years.
  • Allows free access to the labor market.
  • Application is submitted in the Czech Republic. 

PERMANENT RESIDENCY

  • EU national - can be obtained after 5 or potentially 2 years of continuous residence.
  • Access to the public medical insurance.
  • Right to social welfare benefits. 
  • Is a requirement for later acquiring Czech citizenship.
  • Application is submitted in the Czech Republic.
